You wish to reduce resident turnover while enhancing services that are not only meaningful for the residents but also cost effective for you. You look to your health profiles for answers. Your Facility Health Profile reveals precisely the most common Chronic Health Conditions and Prescribed Medicines specific to your residents. |
You consider partnering with Community Service Organizations who may volunteer services for little or no cost, and so you brainstorm ideas with your employees who offer many suggestions, just a few of which include:
Partner with a physical therapy service and ask them to volunteer providing a “cardiac rehab” type of exercise class 2-3 times per week. This would focus on the 80% of your residents with a cardiac history and it could also be a marketing attraction.
Ask your local Alzheimer’s organization or other community senior resource group to sponsor a weekly “brain exercise” class that will help the 82.5% of your residents with dementia.
Ask a local Home Health or Physical Therapy service to provide regularly scheduled resident talks about topics that would interest the 75% of your residents with musculoskeletal conditions. Topics would include education about balance issues, chronic back and joint pain and how to deal with it, etc.
Sponsor a weekly Depression Support Group, perhaps led by ministers or representatives from local churches. This condition affects at least 65% of your residents, and everyone has some experience with depression and appreciates knowing a caring and supportive authority is available for help.
Ask a local pharmacist to provide weekly 15 minute in-services to your aides about the medicines most commonly prescribed in your facility. This education will help your aides identify early problems that may spare some residents going to the ER or hospital.
